On 31 August – 1 September 2009, a very ambitious and forward-thinking effort was made through the Kathmandu to Copenhagen Climate Conference under the leadership of the Government of Nepal and with the support of The World Bank Group, Asian Development Bank, DFID and Embassy of Denmark. At the Conference in Kathmandu, eight countries –Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Kyrgyz Republic – under the leadership of the Nepal government came together to sign a Joint Statement urging the industrialized countries to come up with an effective Treaty at Copenhagen.

Climate for Life Campaign was the communication partner of the event and will carry the message from these countries through its Ambassadors across Europe. During their European Expedition, Climate for Life Ambassadors, Apa Sherpa and Dawa Steven Sherpa will carry the Kathmandu to Copenhagen Declaration from Kathmandu through 9 European cities and finally to Copenhagen, where the world will converge to decide humanity’s response to the climate crisis.
