New York, USA - Ambassador for WWF’s Climate for Life Campaign and SAARC Goodwill Ambassador for Climate Change Apa Sherpa recently addressed a session on Climate Vulnerability and Its Impact on the Millennium Development Goals at UN Headquarters in New York. The session was part of the UN Summit on Millennium Development Goals, a high-level plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly from 20 – 22 September, 2010. H.E. Sheikh Hasina, Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh was the Chairperson of the session.
Apa and Dawa continue their crusade against climate change
Kathmandu, Nepal – 19-time Everest Summiteer and Climate Ambassador Apa Sherpa is continuing his crusade against Climate Change in the Himalayas – by taking a Climate Change message on top of Everest during his record 20th ascent. WWF officially handed over the Climate Change banner to Apa Sherpa at a function in Kathmandu today.

Kathmandu, Nepal – WWF Climate Ambassador and world-record holding mountaineer Apa Sherpa took his climate crusade to the top of the world yet again by unfurling a Climate Change message as he reached the Everest summit for a record 20th time this morning at 8:34 am local time.
Candlelight Vigil at Bouddhanath Stupa to mark Earth Hour in Nepal
Kathmandu, Nepal – On Saturday, 27 March, the whole world came together for Earth Hour, and showed their solidarity towards the fight against Climate Change.
In Nepal, WWF organized a candlelight vigil at the Bouddhanath Stupa, one of the largest Stupas in the world as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site to mark Earth Hour. Students, environmentalists, members of civil society and individuals lit candles to send a powerful message along with the rest of the world that it is possible to take action against global warming.

Two WWF Ambassadors Aim for Everest Summit – To Highlight Climate Change in the Himalayas
In May 2009, Climate Ambassador Apa Sherpa made history by sending out a grave climate change message from the top of the world during his 19th record-breaking summit of Everest. Following this event, the WWF-led Climate for Life Campaign reached out to a large mass of people in Nepal and beyond with a compelling voice for global action with powerful events, highlighting the impacts of Climate Change in the fragile Himalayan eco-system.
Copenhagen talks failed to come to a real consensus. It’s a setback for Nepal being one of the most vulnerable areas to the impacts of Climate Change.
The WWF led Climate-For-Life Campaign succeeded, however, to raise awareness and increase the profile of the Himalayas in the Global Climate Debate.
Kathmandu, Nepal – Despite rhetoric from top political leaders of the world, hectic parleys of the negotiators, public demonstrations world wide and wider interest generated by the media the world over, Copenhagen Cop-15 Conference has failed to live up to the expectations associated with it by the poor and vulnerable populations of the world. WWF Nepal, and indeed the whole of Nepal stands disappointed of this dismal show of commitment of the world leaders.

Austrian Federal President receives rock piece from Everest Summit as a symbol of melting Himalayas
Vienna, Austria - Austrian President Heinz Fischer today received a rock piece from the summit of Mount Everest as a symbol of melting Himalayas in the wake of Climate Change from Climate for Life Ambassadors Apa and Dawa Sherpa. The duo also presented a letter from the Nepalese Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Apa and Dawa Sherpa receive WWF's most prestigious "Leaders for a Living Planet" award
Geneva, Switzerland – Climate-for-Life Ambassadors Apa and Dawa Sherpa received WWF's most prestigious "Leaders for a Living Planet" award in a ceremony held at Gland, WWF's Secretariat in Switzerland. WWF International's Director General Jim Leape felicitated Apa and Dawa with the highest honour given to an individual by WWF, the global conservation organization.
